Former Spain, Barcelona winger Pedro retires from football

Former Spain forward Pedro Rodríguez has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 39.

Developed in FC Barcelona’s youth system, he broke into the first team under Pep Guardiola during the 2008/09 season and went on to win five La Liga titles, three Copas del Rey, and three UEFA Champions League titles.

In 2009, he became the first player in history to score in six different club competitions in a single calendar year.

Pedro later joined Chelsea FC, where he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Europa League, before moving to Italian football with AS Roma and subsequently SS Lazio, spending five seasons with the Biancocelesti.

At the international level, Pedro earned 65 caps and scored 17 goals for the Spain national team, forming part of the squads that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012.
