VfL Wolfsburg have announced that midfielder Christian Eriksen has left the club after both parties mutually agreed to terminate his contract early.
The 34-year-old Danish international had been under contract at the Volkswagen Arena through June 2027.
The agreement comes off the back of a distressing incident in June, when Eriksen suffered an on-pitch cardiac arrest during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine, a harrowing echo of his collapse at EURO 2020 five years prior.
Although his implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) responded immediately to stabilize him on the pitch, he has remained sidelined ever since.
Wolfsburg willingly granted Eriksen’s request to rescind his deal, allowing him to return home to Denmark to spend time with family whilst evaluating his next steps.
